RANK INSIGNIA
Representations of all approved Chicago Police Department rank insignia that are currently in service are depicted below. For information about other insignia that is no longer in service please refer to our Decommissioned Insignia page.
Worn by the Superintendent of Police each star will be approximately 1" in diameter to be worn on the epaulets of the outer garment (e.g. Blouse, Refer, etc.). Stars measuring approximately 9/16" will be worn on the collar of the shirt. A matching pair of four stars will be worn on both the left and right epaulets and collar.
Worn by a Assistant Superintendent of Police each star will be approximately 1" in diameter to be worn on the epaulets of the outer garment (e.g. Blouse, Refer, etc.). Stars measuring approximately 9/16" will be worn on the collar of the shirt. A matching pair of three stars will be worn on both the left and right epaulets and collar.

Worn by a Assistant Deputy Superintendent from the Bureau of Operational Services each silver tone spread eagle will be approximately 3/4" in height and 1 1/2" from wing tip to wing tip to be worn on the epaulets of the outer garment (e.g. Blouse, Refer, etc.). A spread eagle measuring approximately 15/32" in height and 31/32" from wing tip to wing tip will be worn on the collar of the shirt. A matching spread eagle will be worn on both the left and right epaulets and collar.
Worn by a Assistant Deputy Superintendent, excluding the Bureau of Operational Services, and the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent each gold tone spread eagle will be approximately 3/4" in height and 1 1/2" from wing tip to wing tip to be worn on the epaulets of the outer garment (e.g. Blouse, Refer, etc.). A spread eagle measuring approximately 15/32" in height and 31/32" from wing tip to wing tip will be worn on the collar of the shirt. Worn by the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, the Administrator of Personnel Services, Commander, Coordinator, and Director each gold tone oak leaf will be approximately 1" in height and 1" in width to be worn on the epaulets of the outer garment (e.g. Blouse, Refer, etc.). A oak leaf measuring approximately 5/8" in height and 23/32" in width shall be worn on the collar of the shirt. A matching oak leaf will be worn on both the left and right epaulets and collar.

A oak leaf measuring approximately 3/4" in height and 3/4" in width shall be worn on the collar of the shirt. A matching double bar will be worn on both the left and right epaulets and collar.

A oak leaf measuring approximately 3/4" in height and 1/4" in width shall be worn on the collar of the shirt. A matching bar will be worn on both the left and right epaulets and collar.

Worn by Sergeant's a stacked set of three chevrons will be approximately 3 1/4" in height at the vertical center line and 1 1/2" in width to be worn on the sleeves of the outer garment (e.g. Blouse, Refer, etc.). A stacked set of three chevrons measuring approximately 2 5/8" in height at the vertical center line and 1 7/18" in width shall be worn on the sleeve of the shirt. A matching stacked set of three chevrons will be worn on both the left and right sleeves.

Worn by Field Training Officer's a single chevron stacked above a single rocker with the letters "FTO" positioned in the center will be approximately 3 1/4" in height and 1 1/2" in width to be worn on the sleeves of the outer garment (e.g. Blouse, Refer, etc.) and on the sleeve of the shirt. A matching single chevron stacked above a single rocker with the letters "FTO" positioned in the center will be worn on both the left and right sleeves.
